For it is by grace
you have been saved,
through faith,
and this is not from yourselves,
it is a gift of God.

Ephesians 2:8

Live as if Christ
died yesterday,
rose this morning,
and is coming back
again tomorrow.

Martin Luther

Our Mission

Embraced by God’s grace to study His Word, share His love, and serve His world.

A Brief History

Grace Lutheran Church began in 1979 with a few families meeting in a living room. Its first pastor started serving in 1981. They gathered at the Harris YMCA for worship and classes. Grace purchased 3.87 acres of land in 1984 and dedicated its initial facility in 1986. A building addition was dedicated in 2000 which included a new sanctuary, a pastor’s office, five classrooms, a kitchen, and some storage space. The child care ministry started in 2001, serving infants through age four with a desired enrollment of 45 children. Members of Grace established Illumine Church in Rock Hill, SC in 2013 and Huntersville Lutheran in Huntersville, NC in 2017. We thank God for His grace through the years!

What Makes Us Different

One of Charlotte’s nicknames is “The City of Churches”, with more than 1,500 places of worship in the metro area. What makes Grace different than any of them? Our pastoral ministry sets us apart. Grace is a member of a family of more than 1,700 churches called the Wisconsin Synod (WELS). All our pastors are extensively trained at one Seminary and are well-versed in the original Greek and Hebrew of the Scriptures as well as the historical Latin. Their sermons are always a message of sin and grace that provide context and understanding to God’s Word. Grace is a church where you have a personal relationship with your pastor. You have his cell phone number. You can easily schedule a personal meeting with the man who preaches to you on Sunday morning. Grace is small enough to provide a close-knit community, but with the WELS, it offers all the ministries big churches do too – and more. There are a lot of churches in Charlotte, but not enough like Grace!
