We believe that God uses his Word to show us our sins and then to show us our Savior from sin. Through the gospel (good news), the Holy Spirit creates and strengthens faith in our hearts. For this reason, Bible study is very important for both our children and adults, and we offer a variety of classes. All of them are led by trained instructors.
Lambs of Grace is a year-round child development center for preschool-age children six months and older. Click on the button to the left for more information.
Sunday school classes for youth, teens and adults begin at 9:00 am each Sunday. We offer youth classes for children age three and up. The younger children review the basic stories of the Bible. The 7th and 8th grade and teen classes discuss various topics. The adults switch off between books of the Bible and various topics.
An adult Bible Information Class (BIC) can be started whenever interest is expressed. The study is made up of eighteen units (hours), covering the chief doctrines of the Bible. This class serves three purposes. First of all, it’s a “no-strings-attached” class for people from the community who’d like to learn more about the Bible’s teachings. In addition, for anyone who’d like to become a member of Grace Lutheran Church, this class allows us to explain our Bible-based teachings. We wouldn’t expect anyone to want to join our congregation before knowing what we believe and teach. Finally, members of Grace can take the course as a refresher. Typically, the BIC is held at the church on a mutually convenient night for those interested. But if your schedule doesn’t permit you to join the group, the pastor is certainly willing to study with you on an individual basis.
Our 7th and 8th grade students participate in our youth confirmation class. When Martin Luther traveled around Germany in the 1500s, he was appalled at the people’s lack of Bible knowledge. He wrote a book called the “Small Catechism” as the bare minimum that every Christian should know about the Bible’s teachings. Once the children of our congregation enter the 7th grade, we prepare them for adult membership by working through the catechism. After two years of instruction, they’re accepted into communicant membership (meaning that they may join the rest of the adults in receiving the Lord’s Supper).
The teens plan a monthly fellowship outing or activity.
Easter for Kids / Christmas for Kids are one-day VBSs for children to review the story of Jesus’ birth / resurrection, its eternal consequences, and its ongoing meaning in the life of the Christian. This is held on a Saturday morning a week or two before Christmas / Easter. Please call the church for details.
Our week-long summer VBS teaches five Bible stories using a common theme. And although the Bible story is the main focus of the day, all the usual VBS things are included: crafts, snacks, games, activities, music, etc. Check back here for the theme and dates of our 2009 FBS.
As our congregation grows, we hope to add additional studies (singles’, men’s, women’s, etc.). Please contact us if you’re interested in learning more about God’s Word.
